Embryo transfer is a crucial step in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. Here’s a brief overview of what it typically involves:

Preparation

Before the transfer, the patient may undergo various hormonal treatments to prepare the uterus for implantation. This may include ultrasounds to monitor the uterine lining.

The Procedure

 1. Positioning: The patient lies on an examination table, similar to a gynecological exam.

2. Catheter Insertion: A thin, flexible catheter is used to transfer the embryo(s). This catheter is gently inserted through the cervix into the uterus.

3. Embryo Release: The embryologist loads the selected embryo(s) into the catheter, which is then carefully placed in the uterine cavity.

4. Confirmation: Once the embryo is released, the doctor may use ultrasound to confirm the correct placement.

Post-Transfer

After the procedure, patients are usually advised to rest briefly before resuming normal activities. Blood tests are typically scheduled a week or two later to check for pregnancy. Embryo transfer is a delicate and hopeful moment in the IVF journey, representing the potential for new life.
